The AIMAA 2011 Summer Camp was held in the beautiful island of Jersey from the 21st to the 25th of July. Jersey itself is a fantastic place to visit with great restaurants, great sites (the Zoo is a must) and very friendly people. The Camp started off on the Friday morning with Master Byrne and Master Fitzgerald taking 'one step' classes. The Masters broke down all the techniques very clearly and showed how effective they can be. This was followed by both Masters taking self defense classes. 'Keeping it simple' was the order of the day here. No fancy 'movie-moves', just fast & effective techniques aimed at an attackers week points.

The A.I.M.A.A. National Championships 2011 will be held in the ALSAA Sports Complex (Dublin Airport) on Saturday 12th February, starting at 9.30am with adult black belt divisions. The event will be a competition judging the disciplines of Continuous Sparring, Points Sparring & Destruction. All instructors, coached, referees and judges to be there for 9am sharp. €20 covers one, or all events. Late entries will be charged €30. Where there are three or more in any one family, only the first two pay €20 – all subsequent family members pay €10 (ie. 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. family members pay €10). Family entries to be submitted altogether.

The winter AIMAA Black Belt teasing in the Kilmurray Lodge Hotel saw students being pushed mentally and physically. The testing was examined by Master John Darcy (AIMAA European Director), Master Peter Byrne (AIMAA Ireland Director) and Master John Kirkwood (AIMAA Scotland Director) and Master Michael Fitzgerald (AIMAA Arklow) The day started of with high-red belts testing for black belts, including our own student, Lauren Sarsfield. The students started off with the traditional Tae Kwon Do patterns with the emphasis being on effectiveness. Next up was the fighting techniques ranging from white belt to black belt curriculum, followed by one step self defensive techniques.
